Types of Breast Implants
There are two different types of breast implants that may be used. Saline implants are filled with sterile salt water and contain a silicone shell. In the event they do rupture, the sterile salt water will be absorbed into your body and the implants can be replaced. Saline implants are also affordable, making them ideal for women on a budget. They can be used in women 18 years of age or older.
Silicone implants are pre-filled with a cohesive silicone gel and can provide a more natural look and feel. However, if they rupture, an MRI imaging test must be performed to confirm the rupture. Since they come with a lifetime warranty, they can be removed and replaced without any issues. Silicone implants are designed for women who are at least 22 years of age or older..

The Longevity of Breast Implants
Fortunately, there have been many improvements in the design and performance of breast implants over the last several years. The old 10-year replacement rule is a myth. As implants age, they become more prone to failure, but if there are no problems then they can last for many years to come.
Reasons to Remove or Replace a Breast Implant
There are a number of reasons a breast implant may need to be removed or replaced. You may decide that you want larger or smaller implants than the ones you originally received and replace them.
While this is less likely, you may face complications such as pain, numbness, swelling, deflation, and contracture of the capsules that surround your implants. In addition, with age the skin may become loose and sag below the implant leading to have them removed or have the breasts lifted.
