Here are some tips to prepare you for your facelift:
- Choose the right doctor – If you don’t feel comfortable with your plastic surgeon, you shouldn’t have your facelift performed. You should have 100% confidence in your surgeon because the less stressed you are, the better you will heal.
- Get to know the procedure – The more you know about the actual procedure, the better you will feel going in. Have your surgeon explain the procedure step-by-step. Ask your doctor if they perform different types of facelifts. Watch the 3D animation here. Ask to see before and after photos. Will they focus just on the skin of the forehead or the underlying tissue? Ask as many questions as you need.
- Be prepared for recovery – Recovery can take a few weeks. There’s no way around it. Your doctor will provide you with pain medication. The medicine can have an affect on your ability to take care of yourself so make sure you have someone there to help you for the first day or so. Set up a room in your home for your recovery center, complete with blankets, pillows, lots of water and easy to eat snacks when you’re ready.
- Know that there will be swelling – If you’re prepared for the swelling, it won’t come as much of a shock. Any type of surgery results in trauma and your body’s natural response is to swell to protect the area. Speak with your surgeon about what you can do to help with the swelling the first few days.
