QUESTIONS ABOUT FACELIFTS

WHAT IS THE BEST AGE FOR A FACELIFT?

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average age of a facelift patient is 40 to 60. However, this does not mean that a facelift cannot be performed well into your 70s or 80s. The truth is, the best age for a facelift is the age you are at when you become unhappy with the effects aging, genetics, and lifestyle choices have had on your face. Some patients interested in the facelift procedure may look into it in their 30s.

WHAT TYPES OF FACELIFT TECHNIQUES ARE AVAILABLE?

There are myriad facelift techniques and variations within each technique as well. This allows board-certified Phoenix plastic surgeon Dr. Richard Brown to tailor your procedure to meet your exact needs.

During your initial consultation, Dr. Brown will assess your facial and neck sagging, discuss options such as traditional vs. short scar facelift, and help you choose the best option for your skin. Continue reading for more common questions about facelifts.

HOW MANY YEARS CAN A FACELIFT TAKE OFF OF MY FACE?

A facelift may take as many as ten years off of your face, but results vary from patient to patient. Factors such as bone structure, skin texture, heredity, smoking history, and sun exposure will all play a role in your results. So too will the care you take of your skin and body following your procedure.

WILL A FACELIFT ADDRESS WRINKLES OR SAGGING IN THE FOREHEAD?

A facelift addresses the cheeks, jowls, and neck. To address sagging eyebrows or creases and lines in the forehead, a facelift will need to be combined with a browlift. This solution is ideal for many patients and will be discussed with you during your initial consultation.

WHAT IS RECOVERY FROM A FACELIFT LIKE?

Your facelift recovery, like your results, will be unique to you. Some swelling, bruising, and tenderness can be expected within the first week. Swelling and bruising may continue to some extent for up to eight weeks, but work and normal activities can often be resumed within seven to ten days. During this time, Dr. Brown will work with you to ensure proper healing and maximum comfort.
