Can I Get a Mommy Makeover Twice? The physical stresses of pregnancy and childbirth can drastically change the appearance of a woman’s body. Though no mother will argue that having children is one of the best experiences of their life, the toll that those physical changes can have on a woman’s self image can be major and lasting.
At the offices of board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Richard J. Brown, we often meet with patients who are considering having a mommy makeover, and a common question that comes up is, “Can I have this procedure again?”
The short answer is yes. A mommy makeover from Dr. Brown usually involves multiple procedures, some of which may be a tummy tuck, liposuction, breast lift, and breast augmentation or reduction, depending on the patient. While each of these procedures is repeatable in some cases, that may not be the best option for all patients.

Tummy Tuck
During pregnancy the abdominal muscles and skin are stretched to make room for the growing baby. After childbirth, the loose tissues remain.
A tummy tuck tightens and repairs stretched and damaged muscles and removes excess skin from the abdomen. The belly button location is usually corrected as well, as it may have changed positions as the skin sagged.
Though it is possible to perform a second tummy tuck, a second procedure is usually more complicated than the original. The muscle repair associated with a tummy tuck can be more difficult the second time around, and the procedure may cause heavier scarring than the previous surgery.
Liposuction
Liposuction is a procedure wherein stubborn fat deposits are suctioned away using a small cannula (tube) and small incision. This procedure is often included in a mommy makeover to target problem areas that may have been exacerbated through the course of pregnancies and childbirths.
Breast Lift, Augmentation or Reduction
A breast lift to correct sagging breasts as a result of pregnancy or breastfeeding is another procedure commonly included in a mommy makeover package. It is frequently coupled with a breast augmentation to fill out the upper portion of a breast, or a breast reduction to restore breasts to their pre-pregnancy cup size.
These procedures are all fairly common procedures to repeat. Each is a quick procedure that can be grouped with others to expedite the surgical process. If you are considering having more children after one of these procedures, be sure to discuss your plans with Dr. Richard J. Brown.
