Belly Buttons and Tummy Tucks
Tummy tucks are one of our most popular procedures at our Scottsdale and Sun City plastic surgery offices. Combine the tummy tuck with a breast surgery (breast lift, breast augmentation or both) and liposuction and you have our mommy makeover. When we have patients come in for a consultation to discuss a tummy tuck, one of their questions is usually, “What happens to my belly button?”
That’s a great question to ask. As Dr. Brown performs the procedure, he will remove loose skin from the stomach area and pull the remaining skin down to construct a beautiful, flat stomach. As he does this, your natural belly button will be pulled down with the skin. If it’s pulled down far enough, the belly button will be removed and a new one put in its place.
Dr. Brown is able to give you the most natural looking stomach with this procedure. He’s an expert at creating proportional belly buttons to match the man or woman. The other option, if less skin is taken, is to take the original belly button and move it to the proper position. This will be discussed with you during your consultation with Dr. Brown.
The deciding factors between an average tummy tuck and a great tummy tuck are the scar and the belly button. You should ask for before and after photos of past patients and testimonials. It’s important to see the work your surgeon has performed so you know you’re in good hands.
You should also be able to talk to your surgeon about the look of your new belly button. You want to make sure it closely resembles the one you have and isn’t too much larger or smaller. The more natural it looks, the better the overall look of your tummy tuck.
