UPPER
BLEPHAROPLASTY

What Is Upper Blepharoplasty?

Upper Blepharoplasty (upper eyelid surgery) is one of our most sought-after procedures at Brown Plastic Surgery! The procedure can serve both cosmetic and functional purposes, helping patients achieve a more alert, youthful appearance while potentially improving vision in cases where excess skin impairs the visual field. Both women and men seek this transformative procedure to address naturally hooded eyes or age-related changes that create a tired, heavy appearance. The bright-eyed look you desire can be yours – and it’s more achievable than you might think. By precisely removing excess skin and fatty deposits, Dr. Brown can reveal your natural eye shape and restore the youthful, energetic appearance that reflects how you feel inside.

AM I A CANDIDATE FOR UPPER BLEPHAROPLASTY?

You could be an exceptional candidate if you experience any of the following:

  • Excess skin on the upper eyelids that creates a tired or aged appearance
  • Loose, sagging skin that creates folds or disturbs the natural contour of the upper eyelid
  • Fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the upper eyelids
  • Drooping skin that may (or may not) obstruct vision
  • Heaviness in the upper eyelids

WHY AN UPPER BLEPH?

Everyone experiences changes in their eyelids as they age. Our eyes are often the first place to show signs of aging because the skin around them is naturally thinner and more delicate than the rest of our face. With time, this delicate skin loses elasticity, causing excess skin to develop on the upper eyelids. This can create a heavy, tired appearance that may even interfere with your vision – affecting not just how you look, but how you feel about yourself every time you look in the mirror.

When you struggle with droopy, heavy eyelids that make you look tired or older than you feel, upper blepharoplasty may be the solution you’re looking for. This precise surgical procedure removes excess skin and fat deposits through a carefully placed incision in your natural eyelid crease, revealing your natural eye shape and restoring a more refreshed, alert appearance.

WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT FROM AN UPPER BLEPH?

There are few other procedures that provide a more youthful transformation as quickly as an upper bleph. You will enjoy:

  1. A more refreshed and youthful appearance
  2. Brighter, more awake looking eyes
  3. A smoother eyelid contour, making it easier to apply makeup
  4. Improved vision and reduced eye strain if sagging skin was obstructing eyesight
  5. Decreased forehead muscle strain from raising eyebrows to see clear
  6. More symmetrical looking eyes
  7. Long-lasting results with minimal downtime

UPPER BLEPH PROCEDURE DETAILS

During the procedure, Dr. Brown will carefully remove the excess skin and fat pads in the upper eyelids to ensure a smoother, more open, refreshed, and symmetrical eyelid contour. Once complete, Dr. Brown will then suture the incision closed in the natural crease of the eyelid, so the scar is very discreet.

An upper blepharoplasty is a one-hour in-office procedure performed under local anesthesia (lidocaine) along with an oral relaxant and Pro-Nox nitrous gas for maximum comfort and peace of mind throughout the entire procedure.

No general anesthesia is needed, but it does require a designated driver to take you home safely.

IS THERE ANY DOWN TIME?

You can expect swelling and bruising for around 7-10 days. Final results are visible 2-4 weeks after the procedure once swelling has completely subsided and the incisions have healed. Contact lenses can be worn 7 days post procedure, and makeup can be worn as soon as sutures are removed and incisions have closed. You will want to avoid heavy lifting, bending over, and strenuous exercise for 2 weeks but walking and low-impact activities are permitted!
