NIPPLE/AREOLA SURGERY
NIPPLE/AREOLA
SURGERY
WHAT IS NIPPLE/AREOLA SURGERY?
Since nipples are centered on the breast they are highly visible both in and out of clothing. Even if a woman is happy with the shape of her breasts, she may feel uncomfortable or self-conscious about her breasts if her nipples are not properly proportioned. Nipples may bother patients in several ways: they may be long, hanging, or inverted. In addition, some women have enlarged areola and want them reduced in size.
Nipple and/or areola reduction procedures can be done either during other breast procedures or as a stand-alone procedure. These small procedures can substantially improve the attractiveness of breasts and thus immensely increase a woman’s confidence in her appearance.
AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR NIPPLE SURGERY?
You are an ideal candidate for nipple surgery:
- If you are a healthy, non-nicotine using patient for more than one month.
- If you have enlarged areolas that bother you
- If you have droopy, long and/or inverted nipples
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Nipple and areola procedures can be done either during breast augmentation, breast reduction, breast lift, or alone. These problems are never exactly the same in any two patients, and so correcting them requires a custom-tailored approach to each patient. Dr. Brown is highly experienced at developing unique and nuanced solutions to meet the needs and goals of each patient.
WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT FROM A NIPPLE SURGERY?*
- Better body proportion, posture, and breast shape.
- Regained confidence and comfort in one’s appearance.
- Reduced pain in the neck, back, and shoulder areas (not guaranteed).
NIPPLE/AREOLA SURGERY PROCEDURE DETAILS
Dr. Brown will ensure that you are an ideal candidate for nipple/areola surgery. Once this is established, you’ll be able to undergo the procedure. Dr. Brown will be very diligent and patient in his approach, in an effort to design a natural look. Throughout the procedure, Dr. Brown will slowly take the time to restore the nipple/areola to a more appealing state.
NIPPLE/AREOLA SURGERY RECOVERY*
Depending on whether or not this is part of a breast procedure, your healing time may be longer. If you are just undergoing nipple reconstruction on its own, recovery is fairly straightforward and short. Dr. Brown will instruct you on how to use the nipple shield to protect and shelter the nipples during the healing process. You will experience tenderness in this area for about one week. The dressings are usually removed at one week and results are instantaneous. You may experience temporary numbness that will resolve over the course of a few weeks to months. Normal function will also be maintained with these procedures.

It's been a long road. I just completed breast reconstruction/augmentation and removal of excess skin/fat from my upper arms following a 100+ pound weight loss. Very pleased with the early results! Not just highly recommended, but the highest recommendation ever!!!"* *Individual results may vary*- Diana R.
